We advise you to make a quick stop at the public garden in the center of the village (behing the Info Point), where you will find imposing traditional Kanak sculptures, done by local artists. Travel through Moindou village, once a coal-mining centre. Head towards Bourail, and en route, take time to visit Fort Teremba (entry fee not included). You'll learn a lot about the region when you visit this ancient military base, built by convicts at the end of the 19th century. Then, after Arab Hill (col des arabes), stop at the New Zealand cemetery where the graves of soldiers who died during the Pacific battles in World War 2 are beautifully maintained. On arrival at Bourail, visit the beach and the "Roche Percée", a spectacular cliff pierced by caves, together with the "Bonhomme" rock formation, an enormous hard quartz monolith carved by the waves. See the view over the Baie des Tortues (Turtle Bay), a pretty beach bordered by pine trees.
We suggest you continue to Poé Beach where you could have lunch at the camping (not included) and enjoy the beautiful, unspoilt white sand beach.
